A Daily Dose: Fendi, Amanda Knox, Conrad Murray, the Atlanta Prom

This post is a definite example of how my mind is often all over the place.  First of all, I just wanted comment on Fendi's Summer/Spring 2012 line and the makeup, OMG the makeup was quite edgy!  I prefer the gold foil because the silver so reminds me of aluminum foil, but overall I think the hair and makeup for the show was a winner.  The collection was hot as well.  Look for yourself:  http://www.stylelist.com/2011/09/28/fendi-spring-2011-inspiration_n_983811.html

Secondly, Amanda Knox. I must say I am happy to see her back on American soil.  Please, please people govern yourself according when in another country.  Don't get me wrong, I'm by no means insinuating that she was the cause of her imprisonment.  But I will say that you have to be careful about the people you trust, the places you go, and the things that you do.  I really hope she is able to put her life back together again.  I wish her much success.

Next, Conrad Murray and the Michael Jackson trial.  I swear this guy has had the same facial expression since the beginning of the trial.  It's like he just had botox and is it me or does he look like a kid caught in the cookie jar.  So pitiful!  He definitely has guilt written all over his face.  Sad.. sad situation, especially for MJ.  We miss you Michael!

Finally, I just heard about the Atlanta Prom from a friend on FaceBook.  Apparently, it's a fund raiser for the charity "Hosea Feed the Hungry", but instead of the normal dinner it's designed as a prom even including limos.  Who wouldn't want to feel like a celeb for a night???  I must admit it sounds interesting, especially for those who wish to go to the prom again or for those who weren't able to go.  Plus, I'm always down for helping the needy. Go to http://theatlantaprom.com/ and check them out.

True black love is so beautiful

I want to take this time out to wish the "First Couple" a happy anniversary.  They are truly the epitome of what a true marriage is all about.  Celebrating 19 years of marriage, where you are still just as much in love with each other as you were on your wedding day is magical.  I swear he still has those same "goo goo" eyes for her!  That is so cute!  Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Obama!

Christian Louboutin's Fall Collection

Of course we all knew the new Christian Louboutin collection would feature, as usual, a fierce array of fabulous shoes.  Well, here is a sneak peep of a few of my favorites.  Feel free to find these and many more at www.neimanmarcus.com

My favorite brands

As I am continuing on this journey to becoming a real "Fatshionista", I have discovered some really great designers and fashion lines that I totally love and can't wait to try!  These are a few of the sites I find myself visiting often:

Forever 21:  Chic, reasonable, and great fit.  Here's a link to a dress I absolutely love and will be purchasing soon http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=faith_dresses&ProductID=2000029235&VariantID=

Styles by Jibri
Jibri:  What can I say about this designer, she is definitely my overall favorite right now and I absolutely love all of her looks.  I especially love the fact that she uses quality materials and only the best fabrics, also the fact that she's fashion forward and indie is also a plus! Find her at www.etsy.com/shop/jibrionline

Vitamin C:  Also an independent stylist out of Atlanta, Vitamin C clothing by Chloe Faith Harper is one of my favs.  I love dresses and believe me she makes some stylish and chic ones.  Check her out at www.vitamincclothing.com

Monif C Emme dress
Monif C:  Contemporary Plus Size designer Monif C, who was awarded "Best Plus Size Designer" by Full Figured Fashion Week 2011 has become an superstar in her own right with her iconic convertible dress the "Marilyn".  She has definitely perfected the art of styling the plus size body.  She can be found at www.monifc.com

La'Dan's cape
La'Dan's Closet:  I swear this has to be one of best coat lines on the web for the plus sized figure.  As a plus size woman I find it hard to find a coat that is super warm, but also trendy. Well, the ladies of La'Dans do this with ease!  www.ladanscloset.com

Hope and Harvest
black Vegas leggings
and Snake cardigan
Hope and Harvest:  This one is a new one for me, but as soon as I can I will be placing an order because this site makes me totally excited.  Please go to 5their website and check out the Onyx skirt, Two-Tone jeans, and Vegas leggings. http://hopeandharvest.bigcartel.com/

Torrid:  Another reasonable, yet fashionable brand.  You can find them at www.torrid.com

The Red Lip

Red Lip, so hot, but so easy to be done WRONG!  I cannot stress this enough how much I despise a red lip done the wrong way.  I mean picking a red lipstick shade is like a science.  It takes time, research, and experimentation before you find that perfect hue.  This is especially true for ladies of color, but even for caucasian women one must really consider your complexion and hair color. My friend and I were just discussing this issue the other day and it really perplexes me to find that women in the 1950s could do it so effortlessly, while women today (who have a phethora of makeup to choose from) could get it wrong.  I personally have chocolate brown skin with yellow undertones so some of my favs are:  Mac's Chili to Shop and Dubonnet, Dior's Red Icon, Nars' Tamango, and Benefit's Ms Behavin'

My personal style

Me with a little blond!
My personal style is an eclectic mix of styles, ranging from really classic to geek chic to 80s punk.  I'm a Gemini so my style is like my personality..you honestly never know which one of me you're going to get.  I mean I'm the girl who would wear a fly pair of converse, some denim leggings, a vintage band tee, and an animal print cardigan, all with a strand of pearls.  Then, I'll go a little further and pair all that with a really hot designer bag and a pair of hot pink wayfarer sunglasses.  If I had to choose any era of clothing it would be a close tie between the 80s and the 50s (total opposite ends of the spectrum huh?) and as for my hair, I've wore my hair and almost every way possible.  My favorites are either really big curls, or flat and crazy long, or maybe cropped really short and dyed bright red…as for makeup I'm a Mac girl, but I like sother brands too such as Nars, Dior, Benefit and Iman.

Kanye West

So, Kanye's Dw women's line debuted in Paris on Saturday and I must tell you I was pretty impressed with what I saw.  This line was definitely the highlight of my Saturday afternoon, especially that pretty little thing Chanel Iman.  I must say she looked hawt!  I didn't expect any thing less than great with this line, I knew that I would probably love anything Kanye put out because I really dig his personal style.  It's always fresh, it's original, eclectic, couture, yet still urban.  What more can I say about the man except not only does he have flows, but he has style.  I guess Kanye said it best, "I get it custom, you a customer".  He sure does, now maybe he'll make a plus size line and all us thick girls can be "customized" too!
